What’s time got to do with entrepreneurial success or failure?

by Cynthia K. Lee, founder & administrator www.christianhomebusinessassociation.com  and  www.lifemoreabundantclub.com

In the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, it seems like time is a scarce commodity.  In the hot, slow, sleepy days of summer, especially days spent on a beach, time seems to stretch out and true leisure sets in.  Time, of course, doesn’t really change from season to season.  There are still 24 hours to every day and 60 minutes to every hour.

When it comes to home-based business building, both online and offline, entrepreneurs’ unrealistic expectations about time are a common cause of failure.  The majority of people who flock to the Internet or mail order business opportunities are “first generation entrepreneurs.”  They have no family role models for self-employment in general and home-based business building in particular.  If they did, they would realize that it takes time, often lots of time, to really build up a business.

Otherwise rational, reasonable, competent people with decent day jobs come completely unglued if their hot new home business program doesn’t put them in profit within a few weeks. Sometimes this temporary insanity is not so temporary.  I’ve known Internet entrepreneurs (netpreneurs) who spent years chasing after pots of gold at the end of rainbows.

Unrealistic expectations about how long it will take to succeed financially in a home business cause thousands of would-be entrepreneurs to give up on their dreams and goals and walk away in disgust.

Examine your own expectations.  It’s the ones that you don’t examine that often lead to the most frustration and failure.
